Why ENT?

What do you know about ENT?

Otorhinolaryngology is the medical specialty that focuses on consultation, diagnosis and treatment of ear, nose and neck disorders. Because otorhinolaryngology is hard to pronounce and even harder to spell, most patients refer to otorhinolaryngologists as ear, nose and throat, or ENT, providers.
If you have a health problem with your head or neck, your doctor might recommend that you see an otolaryngologist. That's someone who treats issues in your ears, nose, or throat as well as related areas in your head and neck. They're called ENT's for short.
What will an ENT do on your first visit?. This is when the ENT will find out, through conversation, about your medical history, including details about your current health, the reason for the visit, current and recent symptoms, as well as any other applicable information. After this, the ENT will perform a physical examination.
What happens when you get referred to ENT?. The doctor will ask your medical history and symptoms. Your throat will be numbed and a teeny tiny camera will be put up your nose and down your throat .

What is the most common ENT emergency?

The commonest causes of ENT emergency in our series were epistaxis, otitis externa and otitis media. Other studies also mention epistaxis, otitis externa and nasal trauma as the commonest ENT emergencies.

Otolaryngologists, also known as ENT physicians, specialize in the medical and surgical management of diseases and conditions affecting the ears, nose and throat (ENT), as well as the neck and the head. In other words, ENTs are specially trained to diagnose and treat diseases affecting patients, from the neck up.
Why is it important to consult a specialist?. They are specialized for the treatment of that particular organ and hence can understand the problem better, rather best. While consultants see a variety of patients from all domains, specialists deal with a problem like yours every day.
